What's Fun in the Summer without Water?

Now that fall is officially here (especially now that it is October!), I must celebrate our summer fun and accept the changing of the seasons.

As is no secret, my summers are best spent in, on, or near water...preferably on warm & sunny days. Even though this was the rainiest summer I can ever remember (and lawns and flowers were beautiful because of it), we still managed to enjoy river time and water sports.  Here's a hodgepodge of pictures in no particular order...
Jerry & Hayley's newest addition, Brody, loved the river!

Perfectly content hanging on the back of the boat
Grillin' on the water for Father's Day
Spencer wasn't much on the tubing but he loved the kneeboard!

Always the entertainer...

Pork, Peanut, & Pine (next 5 pics)...beautiful day, tons of boats, not as much craziness on the water, thankfully
Boys will (always) be boys
I love the water spray in this one...
Teddy used a kneeboard to learn how to barefoot...
Barefooting!
An afternoon biking adventure to historic Jamestown Island (adventurous because of the multiple storms that blew through)...
Not long into the ride, we stopped to assess the storm approaching and figure out whether we kept going or bolted for home
The storm looked scary so we hopped on our bikes to head home. We pedaled as fast as we could in the pouring rain and lightning to try to make it back, but the storm got bad and we ducked into this shelter on the side of the Colonial Parkway. This wasn't the ideal "picnic" spot but at least there happened to be a picnic table under the shelter for us to drip dry and eat lunch.
Before we even had time to finish eating our lunch, the sun came out and the skies cleared.  Back to the island we headed...
Different view from a bridge of the water we are usually enjoying by boat
After riding a couple of miles around the island, we reached our destination.  A beach on the far side of the island.
Just as soon as we sat down to relax, the storm clouds rolled in again. We pedaled fast (again!) and got stuck in the rain (again!). We rode this one out in another shelter and finally made it home after our three hour tour (or more).

Spencer, our avid fisherman
A storm headed our way and ran us off the beach (a common theme this summer).
A recent boat ride all the up in the Chickahominy as far as you can go. We stopped to snack and let the boys fish before our 1 hour+ ride home.
